Wizard Letter Review

We were learning about the letter W and I thought it would be fun if we pretended to be Wizards that day. 

I quickly put some paper in a cone shape and stapled to make hats for the kids to wear. Then each child got a Pipe cleaner for their wand. I have Harry Potter gear, I just couldn't find it this day, so I improvised with what I had. (story of my life)

The kids got to pick a letter card and then I would tell them what letter they had to cast a spell on. 

If the children don't know their letters, then they can see the card for help. 

 I think he was casting a Dinosaur spell on the letter T. 

This was a fun way to review our letters. I forgot to send home home the hats so we are going to have the kids decorate them and play again. 

Spider Week at Preschool

I drew a spider web on white paper and the kids did watercolor paint to see what surprise was on their papers. Idea from here

The younger group made spider hats. They got to cut 8 legs and learn how to bend them. They cut out eyes and glued them on the front. Googly eyes would have been cooler but I didn't have enough. I always love a preschooler in hats.

For our Halloween party, the kids got to do marble painting that looks like a spider web. That marble hopped out quite a bit and would roll on the floor, so beware. 

Not pictured, we did crinkle leg spiders for our older group. They learned how to fold back and forth to get that crinkle look. Then the wrote their numbers on each leg. So one leg had a #1 written on each crinkle, the second leg had #2's written on it, ect. I babysat an older child that afternoon, whose sister comes to the preschool, and she wanted to make her own crinkle leg spider after seeing her sisters. 

As always, we have a lot of books from the Library on Spiders for the kids to look through.

Making Cardboard Cars

When we were learning about Transportation, the children learned many ways we get around. As an activity, the kids got to make their own car to pull their stuffed animals around in. We used construction paper to cover the sides. We made license plates with our names on it. The kids cut out circles for the wheels and we glued on the steering wheels. A brad would have been cooler so it would turn, but I didn't have any, so that is that. I looped a long piece of yarn through so they could pull it around the house. My kids played with them for weeks before I finally gave them the boot. You always know it is a success when the older kids come home from school and immediately get to work recreating what we did at preschool.

Painting with Wheels

This made the kids' day. We had trains, cars, and even a few motorcycles. This wasn't a letter specific day for us but you can do C for Cars, T for Trains and Trucks, and W for Wheels. 

This was one of our first activities for our 2-3 year olds. It was cutting skills. I traced lines on a paper in both directions. One boy needed to start out with tearing. After small pieces are made, then they get to match where the colors go, and learn those colors. This was for our Transportation Theme.
